Weekend Box Office Results for November 28th, 2010

Tuesday, November 30th, 2010

Grabbing the first place spot for the three day portion of the holiday weekend was Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I adding $49 million to bring their two week total to $219 million.  Although this successful film was predicted to take the first spot for the weekend, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I didn’t outperform Disney’s Tangled as much as anticipated.

Disney’s Tangled took second place at the box office during it’s opening weekend making $48 million.  The animated classic tells the story of princess Rapunzel (voiced by Mandy Moore) and her quest for freedom from her tower of solitude.  The performance of Tangled outpaced the predictions which is great news for Disney.

Grabbing the third spot was the animated hit Megamind adding another $12.6 million to their four week total.  Megamind which stars Brad Pitt and Will Ferrell has brought in just over $130 million in its first four weeks at the box office.  As predicted this weekend was a great weekend for families to head to theaters which is evident by the top three performers.

The other opening films for the weekend were Burlesque ($11.9 million), Love and Other Drugs ($9.7 million) and Faster ($8.5 million).  Check out all of the top ten performers from the weekend in the chart below.

The Social Network is the top box office winner for a second weekend in a row.  The drama that is captivating audiences is surly getting a push from the social networks to maintain its position.  The second place spot for the weekend was the comedy Life as We Know It which debuted this weekend starring Josh Duhamel and Katherine Heigl.  This film had the strongest performance on Friday but wasn’t able to sustain it’s success throughout the weekend.  Unfortunately the film Secretariat wasn’t able to perform as well as the horse it was written about and only placed at the box office this weekend.  Below you can check out the top ten performers at the box office this weekend.

Check back here on Friday for a preview of Jackass 3-D, Conviction and Red.

Weekend Box Office Results for October 3rd, 2010

Tuesday, October 5th, 2010

As was anticipated, The Social Network dominated the box offices this weekend pulling in $22.4 Million in it’s first weekend.  The success was lower than original expectations but clearly outpaced the others in the top five because it was shown in less theaters.  For director David Fincher this was his third most successful opening weekend behind Panic Room and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.  The second spot for the weekend was Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole, in it’s second weekend, bringing in $10.8 Million.  The third most successful movie of the weekend was Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, also in it’s second weekend, bringing in $10 Million. See the top ten movies below.
