Grabbing the first place spot for the three day portion of the holiday weekend was Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I adding $49 million to bring their two week total to $219 million. Although this successful film was predicted to take the first spot for the weekend, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I didn’t outperform Disney’s Tangled as much as anticipated.
Disney’s Tangled took second place at the box office during it’s opening weekend making $48 million. The animated classic tells the story of princess Rapunzel (voiced by Mandy Moore) and her quest for freedom from her tower of solitude. The performance of Tangled outpaced the predictions which is great news for Disney.
Grabbing the third spot was the animated hit Megamind adding another $12.6 million to their four week total. Megamind which stars Brad Pitt and Will Ferrell has brought in just over $130 million in its first four weeks at the box office. As predicted this weekend was a great weekend for families to head to theaters which is evident by the top three performers.
The other opening films for the weekend were Burlesque ($11.9 million), Love and Other Drugs ($9.7 million) and Faster ($8.5 million). Check out all of the top ten performers from the weekend in the chart below.
